Dry Needling in Galston, NSW
Dry needling is a highly effective technique for releasing stubborn muscle tension, deactivating trigger points, and reducing pain - particularly pain that has not responded well to other treatments.
At Motiv Health in Galston, dry needling is performed by both our chiropractor and remedial massage therapist as part of a broader, personalised care plan. This means dry needling is available across both chiropractic and remedial massage appointments, giving you flexibility in how you access this treatment and how it fits into your overall care.
What Is Dry Needling?
Dry needling involves inserting thin, sterile filiform needles into specific points in the muscle - known as myofascial trigger points - to release tightness and restore normal muscle function. It's called 'dry' because no medication or substance is injected; the needle itself is the therapeutic tool.
It's different from acupuncture in its approach and intent. Dry needling is grounded in Western anatomy and neuromuscular science, targeting the physical cause of muscle pain and dysfunction rather than working within a traditional Chinese medicine framework.

What Does Dry Needling Feel Like?
Most people experience a brief, dull ache or twitch sensation when the needle reaches a trigger point - this is a normal and expected response, and is often described as a 'good hurt.' Any discomfort is typically very brief, and many patients find significant relief following the procedure.
Some mild soreness in the treated area is common for 24–48 hours afterward, similar to how muscles feel after a deep tissue massage or workout
Is Dry Needling Safe?
Yes. When performed by a trained and qualified practitioner, dry needling has an excellent safety record.
At Motiv Health, we use single-use sterile needles and follow strict hygiene protocols. We'll always discuss whether dry needling is appropriate for your situation before proceeding and rule out any contraindications.
